Sometimes, the depth of my own obsession scares me. Not when I'm frantically writing down a new proof for why B/A is not just my, but THE Buffyverse OPT, or staying up til 1 AM on a school night to watch more Bones or Buffy, or when I bawl as I watch IWRY for the twelve bazillionth time. It's really when I turn on my iPod, go to my Top 25 Most Played list and notice that at least 75% of the songs are related to one of my obsessions.
My TI-84 tells me that 20/25 songs related to Bones, Buffy, Angel, Dr. Horrible or any thoughts/fanfics related to such is an 80% obsession rate. Scary!

  1. LA Song by Christian Kane (693 plays)- Christian Kane played Lindsey in Angel and sang this song at Caritas in the episode Dead End. No one seems to understand why I love this song so much, or why it's going to be #1 on the list for a long time (it's beating the next song on the list by over 400 plays!) The truth is that as much as I like this song, it really racked up so many plays when it was the only song that could put me to sleep on the bus ride to school (now that honor goes to #5-wait and see what that is) so I would just play it on repeat for the whole 45 minutes.

  2. Standing by Anthony Head (287 plays)- Giles's song from Once More with Feeling, the Buffy musical. Someone pointed out that I seem to prefer men's voices to women's. That might be true. I think that Giles leaving was stupid and out of character and a badly covered up plot hole, but I love the aching, soothing, British accented voice of Anthony Stewart Head (as far as I'm concerned, it's still season 3- he hasn't become just Anthony Head quite yet). My favorite line: “I wish I could lay your arms down and let you rest at last.” It's just the way he says it that you know how much he wishes she could rest, how much he wants her to be able to have some peace. *breaks into tears*

  3. Seven Days of Lonely by I Nine (269 plays)- I think her name is ridiculous, I think the song is a little poppy, it was an iTunes free download and has no real connection to my obsessions beyond the fact that by the end of the school year I'll have listened to it over 300 times, but God help me, I think it is Buffy's thoughts after Angel left her. I actually wrote a fanfic about that. Listen to the song and think about the words.

  4. I Loved Her First by Heartland (258 plays)- When you think about it, this is the father-daughter dance moment at any of my favorite ship's weddings. Buffy dancing with Giles, Bones with Max...I actually first heard this song on a Sue/Jack shipper video (Sue and Jack are from Sue Thomas, FBEye-one of my first TV obsessions.)

  5. A Place Called Home by Kim Richey (252 plays)- This is another Angel song. It was played at the end of A Hole in the World, one of my top 10 saddest episodes. I swear, you could hate Fred with a fiery vengeance, you could have wished her dead a million times, but at the end of that episode, it's almost impossible not to cry.

  6. Keep on Trying by Poco (239 plays)- David Boreanaz claims that he is not as bad a singer as Angel is, but that's proven mostly wrong by his 80% off tune/off key performance of this song with Emily Deschanel/Bones at the end of Killer in the Concrete (one of my fave episodes- although I say that about all of them). He's not as bad a Ryan O'Neil, though. The lyrics he sings are the same, but the tune is so off that I can't believe he's attempting the same song.

  7. Rest in Peace by James Marsters (237 plays)- This is Spike's song from the Buffy musical episode. I am very conflicted over whether or not I like Spike (currently I'm coming down on the pro-S2-4 Spike, but anti-after that) and whether or not he was REALLY in love with Buffy...interesting dilemmas, but, right, the song! He has a really great voice, even though he breaks out of accent completely at the end. Definite hugs to all involved with this song.

  8. Me and Emily by Rachel Proctor (218 plays)- I didn't think that this is directly involved with an obsession of mine, until I realized that it actually is. This one is connected to fanfiction. I've been reading fanfic since I was 12 years old, beginning in the Harry Potter fandom. Anyway, I first listened to this song after I read a fic based on it. (Me and Emily by blackbeltchic)

  9. Under Your Spell by Amber Benson and Anthony Head (188 plays)- Tara's sweeping, stirring voice and Giles's deep, aching one are a fabulous combination. I love the part where they split up to say different things and then meet up again with “I just wish I could stay.” Favorite line: “I can't adjust to this disgust/we're done”- such grief and anger from Tara that you wouldn't normally hear from her.

  10. Full of Grace by Sarah McLachlan (187 plays)- Oh, come on. Any B/A shipper worth his or her salt knows this one. Alright, I'll tell you. This was played at the end of Becoming Part 2, right after Buffy stabs Angel. It is totally gut-ripping and heart-wrenching and awful...and yet I watch it over and over again, not just for the pretty yellow dress Cordelia wears at the end, or for Oz's line “And the world didn't end, cause...check it out” but for the emotional trainwreck that is that last scene. If I'm not done when Angel looks up at Buffy with this confusion and wonder in his eyes, than it'll be when the first thing he notices is that she has a scratch on her arm, and if not that, when he just drops that little kiss on her shoulder. Good grief, I'm tearing up right now.

  11. Walk Through the Fire by Alyson Hannigan, Amber Benson, Anthony Head, Emma Caulfield, Hinton Battle, James Marsters, Nicholas Brendan and Sarah Michelle Gellar (173 plays)- Once More with Feeling again. And once again, not just for the gorgeous dress Anya wears, or Willow singing (in a voice I refuse to believe is her own) “I think this line's mostly filler”. This one really comes together for me at the end as they sing the ending verses in perfect harmony. They're not all good, but together, they sound awesome.

  12. Where Do We Go From Here by above (cause I'm sure as hell not typing that again; 167 plays)- My love for this song can be summed up in one line: “Understand we'll go hand in hand/but we'll walk alone in fear.” The voices and the lyrics are nice enough that I can ignore the Spike/Buffy kiss images that pop into my head, which (to quote the REAL Spike) “makes me wanna heave.”

  13. Broken by Seether featuring Amy Lee (160 plays)- My brother calls this my emo song. It's depressing, so I can see why he thinks that, but I love it. The only connection to an obsession is that this is the song from one of my fave B/A youtube videos. The clip from the beginning blows me away (and not just because of Buffy's uber-curly hair).

  14. Vienna by Billy Joel (160 plays)- This is not surprising so much because it's not an obsession-related song at all, as much as it is because this is the only Billy Joel song to be on this list. It's a shock because he is the single artist with both the most songs and the most separate albums on my iPod.

  15. At the Beginning by Donna Lewis and Richard Marx (158 plays)- From the animated Anastasia movie. This song just runs over the credits, which is a shame, because it's beautiful and I love it. I think animated Dmitri is a hottie, and seeing this movie sparked a desire to research the real Anastasia and the Anna Anderson affair. Ok, obsession recap over.

  16. A Man's Gotta Do by Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day and Nathan Fillion (151 plays)- Gotta hand it to Joss Whedon: nothing climbs up this playlist like one of his songs. I think Dr. Horrible is brilliant and fabulous and has given me another reason to love NPH.

  17. Bad Horse Chorus by Joss, Jed and Zack Whedon (127 plays)- More Dr. Horrible. This song is so awesome, how can you not help but love it.

  18. Bad Horse Chorus (reprise) by above (126 plays)- “There will be blood/it might be yours/so go kill someone/signed Bad Horse.” Compact, to the point and HILARIOUS!

  19. Brand New Day by Neil Patrick Harris (125 plays)- Are you sensing a pattern yet? My latest obsession continues to jump up the list. People say I'm scary when I sing this, but I just love really getting into it.

  20. So They Say by the Dr. Horrible Ensemble (123 plays)- Insanity, fabulousness, and dry cleaning bills for four sweater-vests in one songalicious package. How could anyone ask for more?

  21. Chazak Amenu: We Stand as One by Voices for Israel (119 plays)- This is not a recreational obsession, but it is something that I am very passionate about: the continued existence of Israel and her citizens. I'm not looking for a fight, but I have to say that I am a strong supporter of Israel. Voices for Israel was a CD collaboration by Jewish artists from all walks of life, all sects of Judaism, some religious and some not, to support victims of terror and their families. Chazak Amenu means “our nation will be strong”. Keep the faith, keep the strength.

  22. My Eyes by Felicia Day and Neil Patrick Harris (119 plays)- And here's Dr. Horrible again! This one has an excellent dichotomy of depression (“the world's filled with filth and lies”) and hope (“cause it seems to me/some kind of harmony/is on the rise”). Also, when you watch the actual webisode, you can see NPH in a thick fake mustache pretending to serve soup but really just glaring blackly.

  23. Yerushalayim 5763 by Beat'achon (113 plays)- See Israel rant above. This song got most of its plays because it's the lone a capella song on my iPod and there's a period where Jews cannot listen...well, there are different opinions, but my custom is not to listen to instrumental music. This was the only option for a month and a half. (Why didn't I just get more a capella? A very good question!)

  24. Big Sky by Rachel Loy (107 plays)- I really don't know why this song has so many plays. It's a mystery. Also, not related to an obsession.

  25. Far Away by Nickleback (106 plays)- If you can't tell, I'm not that into popular music. I first heard this on Bones, at the beginning of the episode Wannabe in the Weeds. This episode is (in)famous amongst Bones fans. I won't spoil if you haven't seen it, but I'll just tell you that you're missing out if you haven't watched it yet. And Bones in general..

Well, thanks for sticking with my incredibly long list/ ramble thing. Doubtful anyone will read this, but thanks is you did.
